Second International Meeting (07-09 May 2019), Split

The final activity of the project "Our memories and I" took place in Split, Croatia, from 7 to 9 May and was organized by the platform Culture Hub Croatia - Platform for education , creativity and development through culture.

Eight partners from France, Spain, Germany and Italy together with the coordinator of the European Observatory of Memories (EUROM) project at the University of Barcelona traveled to Split to share their experiences in the two-year project and learn about policies and challenges of memory in history. education in Croatia.

On the first day of the meeting, Tuesday 7, participants had the opportunity to discover the city of Split and enjoy the festivities of St. Domnius, its protector. The next day, a public conference was organized at the French Alliance entitled "Youth, Memory and Creativity."

It served to disseminate the results of the "Our memories and I" project to a wider audience. We also welcomed Berlin’s interdisciplinary artist Roman Kroke, who has been working with high school students involved in the project, using art to interpret difficult stories and foster mutual understanding. His creative workshops have been the centerpiece of the project and have contributed significantly to his overall success.

At the same time, a pop-up exhibition was inaugurated at the Alliance Française where photographs and stories from these workshops were shared. Several professors and researchers: Prof.dr. Alesksandar Jakir of the University of Split, prof. Tomislav Oroz from the University of Zadar and Petra Vidovic from the Goethe Institute, Zagreb, spoke about the Croatian context of dealing with the past and interpreting memories. In addition, the artist Antonio Grgic exhibited his work on memories in public spaces.

The last day of the meeting, May 9, was devoted to a closed evaluation meeting in which the partners discussed the quality and success of the project worked on in the planned publication, as well as the preparations for the final report. From the afternoon, an excursion was organized with a guided tour to visit the fortress of the city of Knin and its Memorial Museum with a special focus on the museological representation of the action Storm 95 ”. The purpose of the visit was to understand the challenges and difficulties of interpreting the very recent memories of the Croatian Homeland War.

This last meeting and conference was a useful learning experience for both international partners and local history teachers and others interested in the subject, including artists. He contributed to the impact and sustainability of the project by launching new ideas for future collaborations.
