The book by Enric Pujol Figueres, the Catalan Gernika. The bombing of Figueres during the Civil War (1938-1939) takes us to the Figueres of the Civil War, the city that, after Barcelona, ​​had more fatalities (in absolute numbers) during the bombing it suffered between 1938 and 1939 The devastation suffered is explained by the fact that it was the last republican capital and by hosting thousands of people during the final retreat. The consultation of the existing written and oral archives and testimonies has made it possible to reconstruct those dramatic moments. Oral testimonies were collected a few years ago thanks to a collective project that managed to gather about seventy long ones. Given the case of Figueres, which has been forgotten for so long, we must ask ourselves: how many other Gernikes should there not be who are still unknown to us today?

Enric Pujol Casademont (Figueres, 1960) holds a PhD in history from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and this 2019 has just published 'Figueres, the Catalan Gernika. The bombings of Figueres during the civil war (1938-1939)' (Ed. Efadós).
