Lecture-recital “Poetry and Exile”, by Sam Abrams

Lecture-recital by Sam Abrams, a MUME initiative held at the UDG Sala de Graus. The lecture consisted of a detailed examination of the historical significance and current Republican exile in its intellectual aspect, and especially in literature. This reflection was followed by a reading and commentary of six poems by Clementina Arderiu, Agustí Bartra, Artur Blade, Josep Palau i Fabre, Carles Riba and Joan Sales.


Sam Abrams was born in Beckley, West Virginia, in 1952. He graduated in Hispanic Literature from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He has been Professor of Contemporary Catalan Poetry and Theory and Criticism at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. He has given courses in literature, philosophy, translation, literature and literary criticism at the Institute of North American Studies, at Eina School of Art Design, Institute of Educational Sciences (ICE), the Association of Doctors and Graduates of Catalonia, Aula de Lletres classes, among others. He is a poet, translator, critic and essayist.
