Exhibition: The Exodus of a People. The retreat to the Vall de Camprodon and Prats de Molló

Traveling exhibition produced by Camprodon City Council and the Camprodon Retirement Studies Center.

The exhibition, organized jointly by the City Council and the “La Retirada” Study Center in Camprodon, illustrates, through images, brief explanations and bibliographic citations, the harsh scenes of the republican exiles that the winter of 1939 they traveled hundreds of kilometers to reach northern Catalan and French territory. The exhibition is presented as a tribute to all the people who lived and suffered in the first person the effects of the Retreat and reviews the times when the military and entire families emigrated to the other side of the Pyrenees when Barcelona fell into the hands of the Francoists during the Spanish Civil War. It is estimated that between January and February 1939 some 500,000 people crossed the Pyrenees through the Alt Empordà, Cerdanya and Ripollès in search of refuge in northern Catalan and French lands, and a significant number did so through the Coll of Ares.
