Algiers and Elna: the pain of internment and the light of hope

We will visit the Elna Maternity Hospital, where we will discover an oasis of peace and solidarity in the midst of the despair of exile and World War II. We will continue with the visit to the beach of Algiers, space where one of the most infamous internment camps for republicans was located.

The planned schedule of the activity is half day (from 10 am to 2.30 pm) and the meeting point is the MUME, except for the departure from Portbou.

Prior registration is required and the activity is subject to a minimum of 10 participants. Places are limited to 25 people.

Travel is made in the participant's own transport and lunch is not included.

La doble frontera. Portbou en els anys de plom de la II Guerra Mundial

Ens trobarem a Portbou, poble fronterer que va suposar la via de sortida de molts republicans al final de la Guerra Civil, i uns mesos més tard va ser també una de les vies principals d'entrada de molts jueus i de resistents antifeixistes que fugien de l'horror nazi. Visitarem el cementiri, el monument “Passatges” de Dani Karavan, dedicat a la memòria de  Walter Benjamin, i pujarem al Coll de Belitres.

Les fortificacions de Franco. Coneix els búnquers de la Jonquera

Després d'una visita al Museu Memorial de l'Exili, descobrirem que a La Jonquera hi ha diverses construccions i obres militars amagades entre el paisatge. Assentaments de metralladores i de cànons antitancs preparats per frenar una invasió militar externa durant la dècada dels anys quaranta. Entrarem en un búnquer i caminarem per la seva trinxera!
