Literary route: Exile and cultural legacy of republican Catalonia

Guided tour of Agullana and its surroundings, with readings of literary and testimonial texts.

Between January and the first days of February 1939, renowned Catalan writers and intellectuals spent a few days in Agullana on their way to exile. The war was coming to an end in Catalonia. This town in the Alt Empordà will be the last stop for many of them before leaving the Catalan territory. Some will never return to their country.

During the activity, the introductory visit to the Exile Memorial Museum (La Jonquera), the guided tour of the “The Catalan Cultural Exile of 1939” (Agullana) and the readings of texts and the tour of significant places will be combined. d'Agullana related to the last days of republican Catalonia, such as Mas Perxés.

PROGRAM:

10:30 a.m .: Meeting at the Exile Memorial Museum, La Jonquera. Introductory visit to the republican exile through the permanent exhibition of the MUME, by Jordi Font (director of the MUME)

11:00 am: travel to Agullana

11:15 am: guided tour of the room “The Catalan cultural exile of 1939” by Enric Pujol (UAB)

12:00: walk from the center of Agullana to Mas Perxés, with comments and readings by Maria Campillo (UAB) and Francesc Vilanova (UAB)

1:30 pm: end of the activity
