Description

DADAISME AND EXILE

(LA MUGA CAULA - MUME)

Friday, October 14,2016, at 19.00h, at the Museu Memorial de l'Exili in La Jonquera

Joan Casellas, director of the Muga Caula, will present the book Fotomontajes dadà by Merz Mail, by Pere Sousa, and will give a talk on Els altres i tu segons dadà.

The event will be completed with a poetry recital by Àngel Rodríguez and a performance by Fiona Morriosn.

The industrial revolution transformed the world in a few decades. The world is filled with machines and objects, and life seems easier. Industrial exploitation, something abstract, involves many other more concrete exploitations; on the less belligerent land, people and cultures.

The Great War breaks out and Dada calls out against the machine that kills efficiently with the Dada machine that does not work; against the reason of state, phonetic poetry and the collage of chance and against the nerve gas, the Aire de Paris. The Dadaists were exiled and war refugees who created an anti-war, anti-consumer and anti-speculative art movement, that is, against the foundations of all human misery.

One hundred years later we commemorate that event with the frightening surprise of seeing everything seem to be repeating itself. Bombs are thundering in neighboring countries, refugees are piling up on our borders and we forget the treaties and laws we made so that what is being repeated is not repeated.

Rethinking Dada may seem futile, as it once seemed, but is there anything more human than Dada?
