Commemoration of the Year of Víctor Català 2016 - International Day of Poetry

February Song 

Joint activity of the network ofmuseums of the Alt Emporda "A county of museums" (UCM) on occasion of International Poetry Day (March 21).

From 18 to 20 March, the MUME joins the commemoration of the Víctor Català Year 2016 with the choice of the "February song" of the "Cant dels mesos", which will be distributed to all visitors. In addition, the February song will be displayed at the MUME reception during these three days.

El 1901 Víctor Català va publicar el seu primer llibre, "El Cant dels mesos", a l'Avenç. És un poemari on hi ha un poema dedicat a cada mes de l'any. Aquest versió del "Cant de febrer" és el citat a les Obres Completes de Víctor Català (Ed. Selecta, Barcelona, 1972).

In 1901 Víctor Català's first book was published, "El Cant dels mesos", in L'Avenç. It is a book of poems where there is a poem dedicated to each month of the year. This version of "Cant de febrer" is quoted in the Complete Works of Víctor Català (Ed. Selecta, Barcelona, 1972).

From the MUME we have chosen the song of February in relation to the annual commemoration of the republican retreat that coincides with the end of the Civil War in Catalonia in February 1939.

At the entrance to the MUME you can read this poem dedicated to the month of February and each visitor will receive a copy of the poem with access to the MUME.

CANT  DE  FEBRER

Febrer lo curt, pitjor que turc!

qui això va dir poc ne sabia.

Febrer lo curt, que duus al burg

tot lo que sobra a la masia.

L’esperança de l’humilitat

-que és llur tresor que més valia-

als que no esperen l’has portat,

amb un ensomni d’alegria.

Amb tu es pressent vora la llar

l’adveniment de Primavera;

lo que a la terra ha de lliurar

del glaç d’hivern que l’entrevera.

L’ametller blanc de tendra flor

és ton heraud i ta senyera;

ell du coratge al vell pastor

al senyor trist i a la vaquera.

Febrer lo curt, ta brevetat

és joia llarga per la terra:

tu a la cansada Humanitat

mostres el terme de la guerra.

“Febrer lo curt  –diuen los cors,

beneita sia ta drecera!

Tot davant teu naixen les flors,

queden les neus al teu darrera.

¡Per ton camí, plena d’ olors,

se va acostant la Primavera!”.
