Active memory of the exile and deportation

Program: 

1) The suitcases of the exile: A pedagogic reflection on exile and deportation 

(project by the students of ESO and Batxillerat of the Institut Olivar Gran, in Figueres. 

During this activity the highschool students will show and tell some of the work they have done about exile and deportation. These papers, based on something as significant as a suitcase, have as main objective for the students to think about the meaning of these exiles and deportations. 

The Maternity of Elne, the exile to the Soviet Union of children from Asturias, the persecution of Jews in Denmark during WWII and the killings in Sabra and Xatila are some of the historic scénarios the suitcases have brought forward for the students of the Institut de l’Olivar Gran.

The commented exhibition of the suitcases will include the projection of a short video made by one of the students of 1r de Batxillerat about a trip to Auschwitz, and the lecture of some letters written by refugees in the Argelers camp, that are part of a research paper of one of the students of 2n de Batxillerat.

Mr. Narcís Oliveres, vicepresident de l'Associació El Triangle Blau of Figueres, will also participate. 

2) “Concert per a una bandera”, music by J. Francisco Ortiz

El 5 de maig de 1945 les forces aliades van arribar al camp de Mathausen i una bandera de la República espanyola els va donar la benvinguda. Era una  bandera que havien confeccionat alguns dels  interns del camp de procedència espanyola i que formaven part del Kommando d’Alliberament de Mauthausen. Es tractava d’un grup de resistents que actuaven des de 1943 dins del mateix camp. En la bandera hi ha diverses inscripcions que hi van fer tos aquells joves que havien patit anys de reclusió i penalitats de tota mena. Després de l’alliberació, aquella bandera va quedar en mans de Francisco Ortiz (1919, Santisteban del Pueblo-Jaén), el qual, sabedor del valor simbòlic de l’objecte, la va custodiar fins a la seva mort a Perpinyà l’any 2013. Actualment, el seu fill Juan Francisco Ortiz, intèrpret de guitarra clàssica, fa un seguit de concerts per homenatjar l’esmentada bandera abans de lliurar-la definitivament al Memorial del Camp de Mauthausen el pròxim mes de maig, moment que és commemorarà el 70è aniversari de l’alliberament del camp. La bandera retornarà al seu lloc d’origen.

El concert al MUME serà un homenatge a la memòria del pare de J. Francisco Ortiz i a la de tots els deportats als camps nazis.

Aquesta activitat compta amb la col·laboració de l'Associació El Triangle Blau de Figueres i amb la participació del seu vicepresident, Narcís Oliveres.
