Walter Benjamin International Conference 2015

On the 75th anniversary of the death of Walter Benjamin in Portbou, the Walter Benjamin Chair, Memory and Exile of the University of Girona and the Memorial Museum of Exile propose a re-reading of some aspects of the unmatched and polyhedral legacy of this fundamental German philosopher. This year, this already traditional international colloquium aims to pay homage to both his figure and his thinking through the reflections of some of the most important national and international scholars, with the aim of sharpening the the analyzes of the complex contemporaneity in which we live.

Program (Saturday, October 10)

10:00 h: Opening.

10:30 am: Jörg Zimmer (CWB-UdG), Walter Benjamin and criticism of classical aesthetics.

11:30 am: Robert Caner (University of Barcelona), "The future of the past". Peter Szondi reads Walter Benjamin.

12:30 pm: Debate.

1pm: Tribute to Walter Benjamin at Portbou Cemetery. Floral offering and parliaments.

4:00 pm: Frank Voigt (University of Potsdam), The concept of ideology by Walter Benjamin.

17:00 h: Debate.

5.30pm: Presentation of the mobile and tablet app Living History: Walter Benjamin, by Heike Demmel.

6:00 pm: Walter Benjamin Roundtable: A Work and Thought for the 21st Century?
