Presentation of book "Red. The blood of the life, by Ariel Germ'n Villa

MUME, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 12 noon

With the participation of the author, Ariel Germán Vila, and the director of the MUME, Jordi Font.

Red is the story of the pain and impunity of an anarchist family and so many other victims of the 1936 coup and the reprisals of the "victorious" side of the Civil War. It is the transgenerational biographical memory of a group of people who crossed the Atlantic to escape the horror and leave it behind without further ado - Without further ado? - on a journey of unexpected returns. Secrets kept for generations, unconsciously transferred sensations and atavistic noises that refer to other times, smells and sounds, are revealed in an unexpected place by Pau, an Argentine descendant of those exiles.

The opening of a trunk of memories sheds light on their own existence and that of the protagonists of this saga. Stories between two shores, which come together from so far away, between ascendants and descendants struggling to build a future for a life worthy of being lived. Its reading reflects the spirit of the binary differences that existed during the Republic and that still persist because they have not been settled with memory, truth and justice. It invites us to reflect on our global current affairs in order to recover that project of country and world aborted by force. That Republic that fought to respect the identity differences of nations; access to education, health, land, housing and employment with fair wages and the elimination of the privileges of the nobility and clergy; issues all of which are still pending.

Ariel Germán Vila (Córdoba, Argentina, 1973) is a historian, musician and teacher with family roots in Catalonia. He graduated in History at the UB (University of Barcelona) and has worked as a historian, anthropologist, musician and teacher of music education between Argentina, Germany and Catalonia.
