Visit to the Castle of Requesens

Requesens Castle, located in the municipality of La Jonquera, in the middle of the Natural Interest of Albera Natural Interest, is a fortification of medieval origin (11th century), extended in the 13th century and, after its disuse from 16th century, rebuilt in the late 19th century. It was linked to the county of Empúries, until the 15th century, and to Peralada-Rocabertí, until the 19th century.

The guided tour, by historians Lluís Serrano and Miquel Serrano, will include a tour of the two main precincts, their historical evolution, the great reform of the nineteenth century, the literary references to the castle during the first half of the 20th century, and the stage of the Civil War and the republican exile in Albera.

In the surroundings of the castle there are different places of interest of the natural heritage (fauna and vegetation, with diversity of types of forest) and also cultural and historical heritage, such as dolmens, churches, farms, fountains, pre-industrial elements such as lime kilns, ovens of ice tiles and wells, the swamp, monumental trees, etc.
