Exhibition “Ausencias”. Photographs by Gustavo Germano (Argentina)
“Ausencias” is an exhibition project of photographic material from family albums. Specifically, these fourteen cases of people who disappeared during Argentina’s military dictatorship between 1976 and 1983. The photographer, Gustavo Germano, returns thirty years later, accompanying friends and relatives to the same places where the photographs were first taken with the persons who are no longer here because of repression. Subtly, but very dramatically, these photos reflect the absence of loved ones and are at the epicentre of the trauma of identity that Argentina is currently experiencing due to its recent past. The exhibition, with the presence of direct testimonies of the events, has had a considerable coverage in the media and a remarkable public attendance.
Exhibition: 4 October to 31 December 2008
