Manuel Carrasco i Formiguera dedicated his life to the mission of fully recovering Catalonia’s national rights until it achieved independence, and to safeguarding Christian values, social justice and democracy. His fight for the higher ideals of the homeland, freedom and faith led him to be court-martialled three times, receive two military accusations, a governmental sanction and a death sentence.

This lawyer by profession, a family man, a committed citizen and a politican with ideals and convictions, was born in Barcelona in 1890 and died at the age of 48 years when, while fleeing from anarchist threats during de Civil War, he was arrested by Franco’s Army and executed in 1938 in the prison of Burgos. Seventy-five after his murder, an exhibition is being held as a testimonial to a man who died defending human rights and the freedom of this country.
