1930-1942. Mémoire juive du quartier Marolles-Midi, Bruxelles is a documentary based on interviews conducted during the 1990s by the Auschwitz Foundation in Brussels with survivors of the Nazi camps. The sequences of interviews with six residents of the emblematic neighbourhood of Marolles-Midi in Brussels (Joseph Berman, David Blum, Hélène Gangarska, Baron Maurice Goldstein, Henri Kichka and Maurice Pioro) enable us to follow their lives, integration into the country, schooling, forms of entertainment, and political convictions. The photographic material complements the contemporary filming to provide an example of life before the fateful period when the first anti-Semitic laws were applied leading, in 1942, to the mass deportation of Belgian Jews to the Dossin barracks from where they were transferred to the Auschwitz extermination camp.
