The MUME has an important collection of drawings by the illustrator Josep Narro Celorrio (Barcelona, 1902 - Guadalajara, Mexico, 1996)

Some of them can be seen in the permanent exhibition of the MUME, in the space "War, defeat and retreat", but here you can consult the whole Narro Fund.

We also take the opportunity to inform you that from January 25 to September 6 2020 you will be able to see the exhibition "Art and exile. Catalan artists from exile in 1939" in Figueres, in the Museum of the Empordà, with 25 of these stunning drawings by Josep Narro.

Narro was a well-known illustrator in the 1930's. Exiled in 1939, he was in different concentration camps in the French Republic (in Argelès-sur-Mer, in the Hassos de Perpignan, in the Barcarès and in Agde). He returned to Barcelona in 1941, but settled permanently in Mexico in 1952, where he collaborated with Barcelona and Mexican publishers. The total number of books he illustrates exceeds one hundred. In 1962 the International Publishers Congress was considered "the best illustrator in Latin America". He collaborated in the exile press, in Pont pont blau and, in particular, in the Information Bulletin of the Catalan Countries that he published from Guadalajara (Mexico) Josep M. Murià. The MUME Narro Collection contains 188 of his drawings from the 1939-1952 period. The prestigious Mexican humorist Eduardo del Rio, Rius, published El maestro Narro (2010), in order to claim his contribution to the country that hosted him.
