SITE SLOGAN

The Exile Memorial Museum Consortium is a public body constituted for the establishment and joint management, in the town of La Jonquera, of the Museum under this name, whose object will be the exhibition, research, interpretation and dissemination of the historical events related to exiles. Moreover, the Consortium will manage the Walter Benjamin Memorial Site, located in Portbou, whose main objectives are the study and promotion of the figure of the German philosopher Walter Benjamin, to tell the history of the Catalan Pyrenean border during the Second World War and the fostering of a critical commitment to freedom of thought faced with totalitarian systems.

The Consortium is a public law body with a specific legal personality differentiated from that of the bodies that form part of it, constituted in accordance with what is established in Articles 150 and 191 of the amended text of the Municipal and Local Law of Catalonia, approved by Decree 2/2003, of 28th April, Article 36.1 of the amended text of the Regional Organisation Law of Catalonia, approved by Decree 4/2003, of 4th November, and Articles 312 to 324 of the Regulation of Activities, Works and Services of local bodies, approved by Decree 179/1995, of 13th June.

The presence of the Administration of the Government of Catalonia in the Consortium involves the application of Article 55 of Law 13/1989, of 14 December, on the legal status of the Administration of the Government of Catalonia.

The Exile Memorial Museum Consortium is made up of the following bodies:

1. La Jonquera Town Council.

2. The Government of Catalonia, through Memorial Democràtic.

3. Alt Empordà Regional Council.

4. Girona University.

5. Portbou Town Conuncil.

The headquarters of the Consortium are in La Jonquera, in the same building as the Exile Memorial Museum, carrer Major, no. 43-47. In any case, the Consortium can establish services and offices in the municipality of La Jonquera and Portbou, in other municipalities of Alt Empordà or in Girona University, when required to carry out its activities.
